Text description provided by the architects. The brief for this job was to repurpose an existing warehouse and create an office space that reflects Fremantle and encourages a fun work culture amongst staff, whilst adhering to a modest construction budget. We also wanted the design to showcase Caporn Young as a progressive company who are doing things differently, this tends to be a pattern that we see with all our clients and it is very refreshing!
With the project located in the West End of Fremantle we drew inspiration from the port and the Fremantle aesthetic. We utilised a lot of raw and natural materials to mesh with the existing warehouse structure and reflect the youthful character of the company.
Some key materials include:
-The post consumer recycled cork that hugs the stair treads.
-The concrete looking cladding which is pre-finished requiring no maintenance or sealing.
-Locally sourced plywood.
-Using the existing slab.
-Exposed steel beams.
-The sea container which we modified to wrap around the reception.
